1-17-11 Sew Much Fun

Kiley has been begging me to pull out my sewing machine forever because she has wanted to make something creative with it.

She was working on her Faith in God project on Sunday and saw the goal that challenged the girl to make something out of fabric. She then asked me if she and I could make something with the Sewing Machine. I promised that we would do it the next day because she didn't have school.

What's even better is that her two gal pals- Madison and Taylor were able to come and spend the day with us and join us on our sewing adventure.

I found some old material and half of  a skirt pattern (without instructions) and the girls began to cut the fabric and then we kind of made up the rest as we went. They did a great job sewing the edges together! I went to Walmart to get some elastic band and found some yarn that matched perfectly with their skirts. While I was gone they made matching head bands with the left over material. When I arrived home and showed them the yarn, they immediatley began to finger crochet (which they had learned from some friends over Christmas Break) matching scarves!
They were so proud of their finished projects! They have made plans to wear them on Sunday!

  1. In 6th grade home-ec class I sewed what would be the great great great ancestor of the modern-day pillow-pet. It was a pillow in the shape of a pig face. I don't know where it ended up as I haven't seen it for ages. Good job girls - it is a great sense of accomplishment when you create something yourself ;)
