All of sudden out of nowhere, it is Wednesday and it was time to fly the friendly skies again. Well, we were praying that they would be friendlier than the last time we flew! We had planned and over planned everything and we had wanted to have all of our suitcases organized where we only had to bring in two suitcases while we stayed in Florida. Unfortunately, that was impossible because we had to make sure each suitcase only weighed 50 lbs. and this required us to move our stuff around until it fit well and each suitcase weighed correctly. At this point, we were just happy if we didn't leave anything behind because we knew we could just sort everything out when we arrived in France. We said our goodbyes to Jeff's family and we headed back to Orlando. We stopped at our beloved Chick-fil-a on the way and enjoyed one last milkshake and their signature chicken sandwich. We flew out of the Orlando-Sanford airport and it was completely empty compared to Orlando-MCO and so it was so easy to drop off our rental car and to check in and walk through security. Once we were waiting to board the flight at the terminal, it still wasn't real to me! After talking about this for so many years, I couldn't believe that it was actually happening! I was also a little nervous that it would be a crazy flight like the ones we had experienced on Frontier Airlines during our flights to Florida. This time I took some motion sickness medicine and tried to sleep as soon and as much as I could. While I tried to stay relaxed, Jeff was having fun with his new gopro camera he picked up on the way to the airport and documented our journey to France.
The flight to Iceland was uneventful (thank heavens!) and we were able to go through customs there because it is a part of the European Union and since it isn't a busy airport we made through quickly! YAY! We were in Reykjavik for a little over an hour and then boarded our plane to Paris. This flight wasn't full and we were able to spread out a bit and sleep during the 3 hour flight.
Once we arrived in Paris we had to wait for awhile for our train to Dinan. We eventually boarded our train to the Brittany region and our first stop was in Rennes. The connection was tight there and we had a hard time getting us and all of our luggage to the correct platform to catch the next train to DOL. We missed that train and so after trying to talk to all the workers there, we finally found somebody who spoke English and they directed us to a train to DOL and we then learned we would be waiting for 2 hours for a train to Dinan once we made it to the DOL train station. By this point we were exhausted and about in tears, but we kept pushing forward and tried to remain positive and hold our emotions together.
It was a quick train ride to Dinan from DOL and we walked the short distance from the train station to our house. After traveling for 24 hours, we immediately settled everyone into bed and we all passed out from pure exhaustion!
Since my writing is mediocre, I'll add Jeff's Animoto video of our travels that better documents our journey to France :)
