Some Memories in Menton

After spending many weekends exploring other cities in the French Riviera, one day last month we set off one morning to explore some more parts of Menton.
Above the old town of Menton used to stand a castle. After it fell into disrepair it was torn down and this cemetery took its place.

It has sweeping views west toward Monaco and east to Italy and the marina.

We found this grave site of the first Rugby player.

We walked around and read many of the names on the headstones.
There are many nationalities represented including several Russian royalty under the gold roof.
Many of the graves are marked by elaborate sculptures. It was interesting to see all of the family graves spanning hundreds of years, some with about a dozen markers

We then headed back down towards the downtown area of Menton.

Lots of stairs!
This was my favorite place in Menton. I loved the streets and the colors of the buildings.
Studio C is always on Scott's mind :)

Of course we had to look for a bakery to grab a snack to enjoy on our way back home :)

  1. Wow. Crazy that the castle is now a cemetary. Looks like a really cool one.
